THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Clashes have erupted in various parts of the state following protests by Youth Congress activists inside a flight against the Chief Minister. Congress-DYFI activists clashed at various places. In the capital city, stones were hurled at Indira Bhavan, the KPCC headquarters. A car parked in the yard was smashed. The attack took place during a CPM protest that started from Sasthamangalam.
Clashes broke out between police and activists during a march by the Congress to protest the attack against the KPCC office. During the march, which started from the KPCC office, police lathi-charged the activists at Sasthamangalam. Police resorted to lathi-charge twice when some Congress workers attempted to storm into the office of VK Prasanth MLA. Following this, the Congress activists staged a sit-in protest.
DYFI and UDF activists clashed in Alappuzha in connection with the burning of the Chief Minister's effigy. The clashes erupted after the Youth Congress staged a protest in the city demanding the resignation of the Chief Minister. Youth Congress activists had earlier set fire to the Chief Minister's effigy and blocked the city's Irumbupaalam Road. They were arrested by the police and removed. After this, DYFI activists arrived at the spot. In the meantime, League activists, including the state president of the Muslim League, arrived in front of the town hall and chanted provocative slogans against the Chief Minister and the DYFI. With this, the two groups clashed. Eventually, the police reached the area and dismissed the two groups. Tensions remain high in the area.
Several people were injured in a clash between Youth Congress and DYFI activists in Kannur. Clashes also broke out at Panmana in Chavara. Congress offices were attacked. The board and windows of the Thalassery block Congress committee office were destroyed. Congress office in Nileshwaram in Kasargod was vandalized by DYFI activists.
