THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The third edition of the Loka Kerala Sabha will begin today. Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will inaugurate the public meeting to be held in Nishagandhi at 5 pm today, Speaker MB Rajesh and NORKA Resident Vice Chairman P Sriramakrishnan said.
The Speaker said that for the first time, members of the Opposition will also attend the meeting. There will be 182 expatriate Malayalee delegates from 65 countries and 21 states in India. 12 people, who have put an end to their expatriate lives, 104 people from abroad and 30 dignitaries from within and outside the country will attend the event. 351 members, including MPs and MLAs of the state, will also attend the event.
The main agenda is to review the proposals approved at the first and second editions of the Loka Kerala Sabha and to discuss what can be done in the event of a change. The main feature of the event is the open forum led by prominent businessman MA Yusuff Ali to discuss the problems of expatriates.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will preside over the public meeting to be held in the evening. Speaker MB Rajesh and Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan will deliver the keynote address. Ministers and MPs Shashi Tharoor, Binoy Vishwam, John Brittas, Mayor Arya Rajendran, PK Kunhalikutty, industrialists MA Yusuff Ali, Dr Ravi Pillai and Dr Azad Moopan will also speak. This will be followed by a cultural program called Indradhanus.
The meeting will be held in the Assembly tomorrow and the day after tomorrow. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the meeting tomorrow at 10 am. VD Satheesan and Union Minister V Muraleedharan will address the function. The event will come to an end on June 18.
