PATHANAMTHITTA: Muslim League leader Kunhalikutty said that the people of Kerala need to know the truth behind the allegations made by Swapna Suresh, the accused in the gold smuggling case, against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. Kunhalikutty was responding to allegations that the Muslim League was not active in protests organized by the opposition.
Kunhalikutty, who said that the leaders of the Opposition were not going after the revelations made by Swapna Suresh, added that the people of Kerala have a right to know the reality behind the allegations. He said that the Opposition had not gone after the revelations as the Left had done in the past. He called for a fair and impartial inquiry.
Kunhalikutty is hinting that the opposition may soften the agitations against the Chief Minister. Opposition leader VD Satheesan too had reacted similarly yesterday. Satheesan had told the media that the UDF would not go after the revelations made by Swapna Suresh.
There is a widespread perception among UDF leaders that Swapna Suresh has particular agenda behind the allegations against the Chief Minister. While the Left has repeatedly alleged that the Sangh Parivar was backing Swapna Suresh, there are fears in the UDF camp that decision to take up the allegations of Swapna may backfire.
