KOCHI: The High Court has said that the majority of co-operative institutions in the state are victims of politicization and the government should promote democracy in co-operative societies.

A bench of justices P B Suresh Kumar and C S Sudha said this on an appeal filed by Shibili Sahib, Vice President of Thodupuzha Primary Co-operative agricultural Rural Development BanK, regarding the election held in bank.

The High Court had earlier ordered to conduct elections on May 14 with police protection. But the police refused to do so, so the court sharply criticised them and added DGP & Idukki SP as parties in the case. The DGP should ensure that the election is being held peacefully. The appeal will be reconsidered after one and a half months
