KOCHI: The Kerala High court has stayed the trial of the case related to the murder of tribal youth Madhu in Attappadi. The High Court issued the order on the petition filed by Madhu's mother Malli. Malli had demanded that the trial should be prevented till action was taken to change the special public prosecutor.
The court has sought an explanation from the government in the case. The petition will be reconsidered after 10 days. Although Madhu's mother and sister had approached the trial court seeking the same, the petition was rejected. The trial of the Madhu murder case is taking place in the Mannarkkad Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Special Court. Madhu's relatives came forward seeking the removal of Special Prosecutor C Rajendran after the witnesses in the case turned hostile.
Tenth witness Unnikrishnan and eleventh witness Chandran, who had earlier testified before the magistrate that they saw Madhu being beaten, later turned hostile. In her complaint, Madhu's mother said that the defense lawyer had succeeded in turning the witnesses hostile and that she was worried that she would lose the case if the prosecutor appears for her. Madhu's mother wrote to the Director-General of Prosecutions seeking the removal of the Special Prosecutor after the trial court rejected her petition.
