KASARGOD: The authorities, who expedited the distribution of compensation to endosulfan victims following a Kerala Kaumudi report, have disbursed Rs 45.75 crore to 1158 persons so far. 2102 are yet to receive the compensation. The distribution is expected to be completed by July 15.

Earlier, Kerala Kaumudi had reported about the negligence of the officials who did not disburse the compensation despite the government sanctioning Rs 200 crore. Then the top officials of the district administration started working to disburse the compensation. The Kasargod Endosulfan Cell functioned even on the holidays under the leadership of the newly appointed Deputy Collector.

Meanwhile, the disbursement of funds may be delayed by one month in applications where there are disputes between heirs and where applicants have not produced the necessary documents. There are also a number of disputed cases regarding the heirs of the deceased. Authorities said they needed to conduct a thorough inspection to find the real heirs.

District Collector Swagat Ranveerchand said that applications were being accepted only through the online web portal to avoid delays and to provide transparent financial assistance to the victims without any inconvenience.
