PATNA: One person has died in the attacks amid protests launched against the Agnipath scheme. The dead was a passenger and a native of Bihar. He had collapsed after inhaling fumes from a train that was set ablaze by the protesters. He was soon rushed to the hospital, but could not be saved.
The incident took place in Lakhisarai, Bihar. Two people have lost their lives in the violence in different places. So far, 507 people in Bihar and 260 in Uttar Pradesh have been arrested, said the police.
Conflict continues in Bihar on Saturday as well. Vehicles were set on fire in Tehta and stones were hurled at vehicles. Meantime, the central government has directed the armed forces to go ahead with the Agnipath scheme. The Air Force will begin the procedures on Friday. The government is also planning to raise the number of recruits.
In Bihar, various opposition student organizations have declared a bandh on Saturday. In the wake of the intensifying protests, security has been beefed up in railway stations, including Patna. Anticipating further violence, the government has suspended internet services in 12 districts of Bihar. It will remain in effect till Sunday.
The protests which had begun in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi spread to Telangana and Tamil Nadu, last day. One person was killed after the railway police opened fire at protesters in Secunderabad, Telangana.
