NEW DELHI: Amid violent protests, the central government has announced a 10 per cent reservation for Agniveers, who will be recruited through the Agnipath scheme, in the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and the Assam Rifles.

The centre has also announced an age relaxation of three years beyond the prescribed upper age limit for the recruitment. However, the first batch of Agniveers, will get an age relaxation of five years beyond the prescribed upper age limit.

Meantime, country-wide protests against the Agnipath scheme are continuing for the fourth day in a row. One person was killed after the railway police opened fire at protesters in Secunderabad, Telangana. The protestors have vandalized public and private vehicles in various places. Buses were damaged in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Security has been beefed up in the area. A bus was set ablaze in Jehanabad, Bihar.
