NEW DELHI: The winter session of the Lok Sabha will be likely at the new parliament building, said Speaker Om Birla. "Our endeavour is to start the winter session in the new building of parliament and the new building will clearly show the picture of a self-reliant India," Birla said.

"From a technical and security point of view, this new building is far ahead of the old parliament building. But the old building of parliament will also remain a part of it. With the cooperation of everyone, the productivity of the house has been so high. The house runs till late at night,” he said.

"From time to time, I also talk to party leaders and tell them that the house should run smoothly and that discipline and decorum should be maintained. With their cooperation, the level of productivity and debate in the house has increased significantly," Birla added.

Earlier, Union Minister of Urban Development Hardeep Singh Puri had said that the construction of the new parliament building will be completed by this October. Meanwhile, the Delhi Congress committee appealed to the prime minister to name the new parliament building after former President APJ Abdul Kalam in order to send a message of communal harmony.
