KOCHI: A copy of the secret statement of Swapna Suresh given to customs in the gold smuggling case has been handed over to the special court considering financial offences. However, enforcement’s plea seeking a copy of Swapna’s secret statement in the dollar smuggling case will be considered on June 22. The plea will be considered after hearing the arguments of the customs. That is why the consideration of the plea was postponed.
The ED will collect the detailed statement of Swapna in the gold smuggling case on Wednesday. The ED had earlier approached the court seeking a copy of the secret statement but the court rejected the plea as the customs objected to it. However, the court handed over a copy of the secret statement to ED after the customs investigation into the case was completed. The detailed statement of Swapna is taken after the central directorate examined the statement in the case on the basis of the 27-page secret statement and asked to proceed with the investigation.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and former Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan have been mentioned in her statement. This was also in the affidavit filed by Sumit Kumar, the former commissioner of customs. ED hopes that Swapna will produce more evidence when she comes to testify.
