KOCHI: The KSRTC management on Monday explained to the High Court that KSRTC had a debt liability of Rs 12100.34 crore as of May 31, of which Rs 3030.64 crore was from a consortium of banks.
Deputy Law Officer PN Hena gave the affidavit on a petition filed by the employees seeking timely payment of salaries. Earlier, Justice Devan Ramachandran had directed KSRTC to state its current assets and liabilities.
KSRTC has to pay Rs 8713.05 crore to the government as loan repayment. It also has to pay Rs 356.65 crore to KTDFC. The government provides money through plan funds and loans. Plan funds provided for the purchase of vehicles need not be paid back. The loan has to be repaid with interest. The government had given Rs 2037.51 crore as a loan during the last financial year. The government had written off loans and interest till 2009. Subsequently, the loan for the year 2013-14 was converted into shares. Loans are given for the salaries and pensions of the employees.
KSRTC has 28 depots, 45 sub-depots, 19 operating centers, 28 station master offices, five workshops and three staff training colleges. Six shopping complexes are under construction at Harippad, Muvattupuzha, Thodupuzha, Malappuram, Nilambur and Pathanamthitta.
