MUMBAI: Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat alleges that the political conspiracy of BJP is behind the issues in Maharastra. There are attempts to oust Uddhav Thackeray, a virulent Modi critic and the Congress will stand by him, said Rawat.

Earlier, another Congress leader, Mallikarjun Kharge, had also come out in support of Uddhav Thackeray. Kharge had said that the BJP was making political moves in Maharashtra ahead of the upcoming presidential elections and that the Congress would stand by the Maha Vikas alliance. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had also extended her support to Uddhav. Mamata Banerjee had alleged that the Shiv Sena-led government had done a lot of development work in Maharashtra and that the BJP was destroying all this.

Attempts by the opposition to select a common candidate in the presidential election have suffered backlash from the beginning. The real goal of Mamata Banerjee, who came up with the idea of choosing a consensus candidate, was to unite the opposition parties against the BJP more than winning the elections. Although the common candidate of the opposition parties is contesting the Presidential election, it cannot be assumed that Mamata Banerjee's goal has been fully achieved.

But in the current political crisis in Maharashtra, opposition parties, including various regional parties in the country, are seen coming out in support of the Maha Vikas Alliance and Uddhav Thackeray. Political observers say that the unity of the opposition parties that Mamata wanted could probably be seen in Maharashtra.
