THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau has caught red-handed an Overseer who demanded a bribe for giving permission to renovate a building. Vilappil panchayat overseer Sreelatha is the official who got arrested. She was arrested by the vigilance officials while taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the applicant.
The Vigilance team arrested Sreelatha on the instructions of Vigilance Special Cell SP Ajayakumar based on a complaint lodged by Ansari, a native of Vilappil. Although Ansari had submitted an application to the panchayat seeking permission to renovate his two-storey building, Sreelatha had rejected the application.
After refusing to give permission several times, Sreelatha demanded a bribe of ten thousand rupees. Based on Ansari's complaint, the vigilance team laid a trap. They caught the overseer red-handed when she was taking the money from Ansari on Wednesday.
