THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that rain will continue for five more days in the state. Heavy rains today caused widespread damage in Idukki and the northern districts of Kerala. One person died after being swept away by a strong current in Adimali. In the backdrop of continued heavy rains, the Kasargod District Collector declared a holiday for educational institutions in the district tomorrow. The holiday is applicable to schools, including Anganwadis, Kendriya Vidyalayas, CBSE and ICSE, and madrasas and professional colleges.
A holiday has been declared for educational institutions in Idukki Devikulam Taluk as well. However, there will be no change in exams.
In Palakkad district, Attapadi and Mannarkkad also received heavy rainfall. The shutters of Kanjirapuzha Dam were opened. A warning has been issued to those living on the banks of Bharatapuzha. Mangalam Dam will be opened tomorrow. Those on the banks of Cherukunna River should remain alert. The shutters of Kozhikode Kakkayam Dam will be opened in case of a strong water flow.
