THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM has assessed that Saji Cheriyan's controversial speech has led to a misinterpretation that the leftist position was against the Constitution. This assessment was made in the leadership level consultation that was held the other day. It was after this assessment that the party decided to seek Saji Cheriyan's resignation. The CPM mouthpiece clarified this in an editorial it wrote yesterday, justifying the decision to resign.
CPM explains that although Saji Cheriyan's speech highlighted the increasing number of actions on the part of the administration against the directives of the Constitution, it led to the misinterpretation that the leftist stand is against the Constitution. The CPM stated that he resigned after realizing this. The party assessed people are upset with the rule of the Sangh Parivar, which is consolidating its power through communal polarization by creating the distortion that 'majority' is democracy and it is in this context that the remarks made by Minister Saji Cheriyan led to misinterpretation and misunderstanding.
The CPM criticized in its editorial that the Congress was not ready to self-critically examine its past actions and admit its mistakes.
The CPM leadership also suggested that no celebration must be held by organizing reception programs for Saji Cheriyan in Alappuzha and other places. The program scheduled in his hometown yesterday was cancelled. The secretariat meeting to be held today will evaluate the case proceedings.
