KOTTAYAM: Four policemen, including Changanassery DYSP, were found to have connections with goonda leader Arun Gopan. District Police Chief D Shilpa has given a report to South Zone IG P Prakash against DySP Sreekumar, Cyber Cell CI MJ Arun, policemen Arunkumar and Manoj. According to the report, these policemen had leaked police secrets to Arun Gopan. The investigation, led by the district police chief, was based on the special branch report.
Arun Gopan, whose name is on the goonda list of Kottayam, was recently arrested in a honey trap case. Soon, it was found that some policemen had close connections with Arun, an accused in many cases, including hawala and murder. His rival and notorious gangster Alotty was arrested two years ago in a ganja case. Arun Gopan had connived with the police to ensure Alotty's arrest.
Arun, who had fled to Malappuram following the honey trap case, was arrested recently by the Kottayam West police. On that night, the Changanassery DySP reached there despite being a station outside his jurisdiction and had a verbal argument with Arun, who was in the cell. It has been found that the DySP came to the station to threaten Arun not to reveal the connection between them to other policemen.
