THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Speaker M B Rajesh has passed a ruling against the portrayal by the opposition and the media that it was unusual to have cancelled Q/A session and the zero hour last day following the protests. The Speaker clarified that facts should be understood while reporting the legislative proceedings. The members of the assembly who takes part in discussions related to this should also realize this matter.
Eight members of the opposition were called to ask questions , but eight of them refused to do so. They were protesting by raising placards and shouting slogans. A ninth member from the ruling front was then invited to ask questions, but his query was drowned in commotion from both sides. The minister himself told the House his difficulty in answering the question. There was uproar from both sides and it was not possible to proceed with Q/A session. Even when the CM got up to answer the question, the questioner was not ready hear the reply. In such a situation, the zero hour was also cancelled.
There were some irresponsible comments from various quarters against the Speaker's discharge of responsibility in a situation where all efforts to move the proceedings of the House smoothly failed. He also cited a similar situation which happened in 2013 when G Karthikeyan was the speaker.
