THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are continuing in the state. Yellow alert has been declared in 12 districts namely Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated rains are likely in Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts of Kerala in the next three hours. The authorities have warned fishermen not to venture into the sea.
A red alert has been issued at Kakkayam Dam in Kozhikode due to rise in water level. The dam shutters were lifted up to three feet. Alerts have been issued for those residing close to Kuttiyadi river. The Kanjirapuzha Dam in Palakkad has been opened and the Mangalam Dam will be opened on Friday.
Holiday for educational institutions
A holiday has been declared for all the educational institutions in the districts of Kasaragod and Kannur, due to heavy rains. The Kannur University examinations have been postponed. A holiday has also been declared for the educational institutions in Devikulam taluk in Idukki. However, there will be no change in pre-scheduled examinations.
