KOZHIKODE: The police arrested a woman, main accused in the case of cheating lakhs from many after promising them jobs in the railways. The Mukkam police arrested 38-year-old Aswathy Warrier hailing from Edapal Vattamkulam Kavupra, from her hideout in Coimbatore. She was hiding here for quite some time with her two children without being noticed by the police. A friend in Edapal arranged the place for her. The investigating team had the other day arrested the other accused identified as Shiju (39) of Karasseri, his brother Shijin (32) and Babumon (39) of Edapal. They have been remanded. The fraud was using the mail misleading as that of railway recruitment board. Some were given fake appointment order in the name of chairman, southern railway. Police said Aswathy was the mastermind behind the fraud.
Her husband was working in a private company in Chennai. They were staying near the coach factory in Chennai. She learned more about the railways and the jobs while staying here. After her husband committed suicide, she reached home with her children. She met the other accused in her hometown and planned the fraud. An amount of Rs 40,000 was received from the candidates in the beginning. They charged more money when people came forward. Police said some even paid Rs 4 lakh.
Police said that many people have become victims of fraud, but many are not ready to file a complaint. Many gave money to Aswathy through close relatives. That is why they are not ready to file a complaint. Only one complaint has been lodged against Aswathy and her team. The police said Aswathy initially paid around Rs 35,000 monthly to the victims in the beginning.
