THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Stringent action will be taken on the harassment attempt, which took place amid the Youth Congress Chintan Shivir campaign, said the Congress leadership. The harassment complaint has been discussed only in a small way and an explanation has been sought from Youth Congress state president Shafi Parambil, said KPCC president K Sudhakaran.

Meantime, opposition leader V D Satheesan said that if the girl has a complaint, then it will be handed over to the police. He added that he has asked the Youth Congress leadership to check whether the complaint circulating on WhatsApp is true and to talk to other girls who had participated in the camp. We are not ready for any compromise on issues against women, he said.

Earlier this month, a Youth Congress leader had misbehaved with a woman leader from Thiruvananthapuram, at the Chintan Shivir in Palakkad. Following the incident, the woman leader had lodged a complaint with the Youth Congress state president and the national secretary. Following which, C B Pushpalatha, national secretary in-charge of Kerala, announced that the leader has been suspended from the Youth Congress’s primary membership.

However, criticisms were raised against the Congress claiming that the party did not respond to the issue and attempted to hide the news. Subsequently, K Sudhakaran and V D Satheesan have come forward clarifying the party’s stance on the issue.
