KOLLAM: A Malayali jawan was killed in a flash flood in Chattisgarh. The deceased has been identified as CRPF Commando R Sooraj (27), a native of Sooranadu.
The accident took place at 7 am yesterday while Sooraj and four other CRPF jawans were returning from a patrol in the Naxal-affected area in Bijapur. Sooraj was swept away by the strong current while crossing the Venta Vagu river, a tributary of the Tummala Vagu river, by ropeway. The others managed to escape. Sooraj's body was found far away from the accident site around 3 pm.
Sooraj was a jawan of Cobra 210 battalion. The body has been shifted to a hospital in Bijapur for post-mortem.
