KOTTAYAM: An accused, who killed a youth and left the body in front of a police station, escaped from prison, on Saturday. The man has been identified as Binumon, the fourth accused in Shan Babu murder case. He escaped from the kitchen area of Kottayam Sub Jail.

Binumon was entrusted with kitchen duty on Saturday morning. However, he jumped off the prison wall using a log of wood kept in the kitchen, at around 5:30 am. The police have intensified efforts to nab him.

Binumon, a native of Meenadom, was remanded in the case of murdering Shan Babu, a resident of Vimalagiri, Kottayam and dumping his body in front of Kottayam East police station.

The murder was committed by K T Jomon, an accused included in the city’s goons list. Shan Babu was killed on the suspicion that he had betrayed him and passed information to the police.

Meantime, Binumon’s wife had visited him at the jail, last day. According to reports, Binumon told his wife that he had to get out of the prison soon. The police have also begun investigation at Binumon’s hometown Meenadom.
