KALPETTA: The Public Works Department has suspended an assistant engineer and an assistant executive engineer for failing to complete the Wayanad Kalpetta bypass on time. The officials were suspended on the instructions of Minister Mohammed Riyas. The minister has sought an explanation regarding the delay in the work of the bypass from the executive engineer and the project director. The minister also instructed to take action under the Disaster Prevention Act if there is any further delay in the construction activities.

Tamil Nadu Erode-based RS Development took over the work of the Kalpetta bypass two years ago. However, the construction work was dragging on. The minister had warned that the company would be blacklisted if the construction work was not completed within six months.
