KANNUR: Kannur City Police Commissioner R Ilango has ordered a departmental inquiry against Thalassery CI and SI Manu on the complaint of brutally beating up a couple who had come to the sea bridge. As per the complaint lodged by Kathiroor native Megha Vishwanath, she and her husband were dragged on the road and put into a jeep when they questioned the police action. Meanwhile, Megha's husband CP Pratyush was remanded in the case of assaulting the police. Megha was granted bail.

The incident happened at Thalassery sea bridge at midnight on Thursday. Megha and her husband were arrested by SI Manu and his team. "Despite our continuous requests, they did not let my husband go. I was also dragged into another jeep and taken to the station. We were then kept outside the station for the whole night. As per the complaint, a drunk officer, who came to the station in mufti, kicked Megha's husband in the back and hit him on the head several times.

"When my husband was produced before the magistrate, he informed that he was beaten up by the police. However, he was directed to give it in writing," Megha said.

Thalassery ACP and Special Branch DySP will investigate the allegations against the officials separately. The commissioner stated that further action will be taken after receiving the report.
