THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As a result of the formation of a low-pressure region over south Odisha and adjoining areas, a southward shift of the monsoon trough from its normal position and the presence of a low-pressure trough from the south Gujarat coast to the Karnataka coast, there will be widespread rains in Kerala for the next five days, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
In Kerala, orange alert has been declared in the districts of Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, on Sunday. Strong rain alerts have been issued in these areas. Whereas, yellow alert has been declared in eight districts namely Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram. Heavy rains are likely to lash these districts in coming days.
