Newspapers that came out yesterday showed pictures of angry mobs, who stormed the Sri Lankan president's residence, taking selfies on the luxurious couches and playing cards in the living room. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is said to resign on Wednesday. No one knows where he is. It is also rumoured that he has left the country. It was the rule of the Rajapaksa family that pushed Sri Lanka into the crisis. The same will happen in any country if the family rule becomes the rule for the sake of the family only. Four of the Rajapaksa brothers were part of the cabinet. Gotabaya as President, Mahinda as Prime Minister, Chamal and Namal as Ministers. Other family members were also there in various positions of power. Corruption and perverse decisions without considering the welfare of the people led to the downfall that created conditions for the people to take to the streets.

No wonder people have taken over the residences of the President and Prime Minister in a situation where they can't get fuel even after standing in queue for hours, schools have to be closed due to lack of paper and ink, and even hospitals not functioning. Many countries that were close to Sri Lanka during good times, abandoned it in times of trouble. In the past few years, the Sri Lankan rulers had taken the worst possible path of ignoring India if it had the all-powerful support of China. However, when Sri Lanka was in crisis, only India came forward to help by providing medicine, food, fuel and money. Japan also helped by providing medicines. The truth that true friends should be recognized in difficult times is something that Sri Lanka should not forget during this fall. Some of the new countries or those who abandoned them at the point of danger may yet try to take advantage of the chaos there. The only temporary solution to the current crisis is for an all-party government to come to power as soon as possible. India should also be ready to help them as much as possible. Because the dark future of Sri Lanka is not good for India either. People do not seem to tolerate it if someone from the Rajapaksa family becomes a member of the new cabinet.
