THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Widespread rains are likely to lash the state on Tuesday. The meteorological department has forecasted heavy rains in the northern districts of Kerala. Yellow alert has been declared in six districts namely Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), isolated rains are likely in three districts namely Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur, for the next three hours. Heavy rains are due to the formation of a low pressure region over Odisha and Andhra Pradesh and a low pressure trough over the Gujarat-Kerala coast.

Rains are likely to intensify on Wednesday as well. Yellow alert has been declared in all the districts on Wednesday. Meantime, yellow alert has been issued in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, on Thursday.
