Jasprit Bumrah, who took four wickets for just nine runs in five overs, caused the collapse of England's batting line. Immediately after the toss and team announcement the England Cricket Board posted a tweet to reveal their batting strength. Along with the names of the leading batsmen, the tweet read, 'That batting line-up'.

Bumrah dismissed the dangerous Jason Roy on the fourth ball of the second over. In the last ball of the same over, Bumrah also took the wicket of Joe Root. Both of them didn't score any runs. Then in the third over, Mohammed Shami dismissed Ben Stokes on the very first ball he faced. Bumrah dismissed Johnny Bairstow in the sixth over and Liam Livingstone in the seventh over.

It was thought that Captain Buttler and Moeen Ali's partnership would help England, but Prasidh Krishna dismissed Moeen Ali in fourteenth over and broke that partnership. Ali scored 14 runs. Later, Shami dismissed Buttler. Six players in the England line-up were dismissed before scoring runs.
