LONDON: Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that the England batsmen who scored 498 runs against Netherlands, can easily score 400-plus runs against India. Vaughan shared his opinion in an interview given to an English website just before the first ODI between India and England. Vaughan said that England have a very strong batting line-up and there is no doubt that they will put up a huge score as the Oval has a flat track that supports the batsmen.
'You are never quite sure what the line-up will be, but they (Root, Bairstow & Stokes) will all play.Livingstone will be there somewhere as well.', said Vaughan. He added that although England had a good batting performance against Netherlands, India is a strong team and he does not expect a similar performance. Even so, Vaughan said he would not be surprised if England hit 400 runs.
Meanwhile, in the first ODI, India won the toss and sent England for batting. Batting first, England were all out for 110 runs in 25.2 overs. As per latest reports, India has scored 64 runs without losing a wicket in 12 overs. Openers Captain Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan are at the crease.
Jasprit Bumrah, who took six wickets for just nineteen runs in 7.2 overs, caused the collapse of England's batting line. Bumrah dismissed the dangerous Jason Roy on the fourth ball of the second over. In the last ball of the same over, Bumrah also took the wicket of Joe Root. Both of them didn't score any runs. Then in the third over, Mohammed Shami dismissed Ben Stokes on the very first ball he faced. Bumrah dismissed Johnny Bairstow in the sixth over and Liam Livingstone in the seventh over.
It was thought that Captain Buttler and Moeen Ali's partnership would help England, but Prasidh Krishna dismissed Moeen Ali in fourteenth over and broke that partnership. Ali scored 14 runs. Later, Shami dismissed Buttler. Six players in the England line-up were dismissed before scoring runs.
