VADODARA: Seven people died after heavy rain led to a flood-like situation in various parts of Gujarat. 27,896 people affected by the flood have been evacuated. State Disaster Management Minister Rajendra Trivedi said that around 18,225 people are staying in temporary shelters. Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel visited the disaster-hit area of Bodeli in Chhota Udepur district.
The heavy rain that started on Monday is wreaking havoc in the Kutch, Rajkot and Saurashtra regions of Gujarat. A red alert has been declared in Panchmahal, South Gujarat's Narmada, Surat, Dang, Valsad, Tapti, Rajkot, Kutch, Jamnagar and Devbhoomi Dwarka. The low-lying areas were submerged after the Purna and Ambika rivers overflowed their banks. 20 people, including a five-year-old child, were rescued from the flood-hit area of Navrasi town by the fire rescue team. According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Anjar in Kutch received 167 mm of rain in six hours and Gandhidham received 145 mm of rain.
