AHMEDABAD: Congress leader Ahmed Patel plotted against then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi in the Gujarat riots case, alleged the police, in an affidavit submitted against the anticipatory bail plea filed by activist Teesta Setalvad.
Setalvad is one of the two persons arrested by the investigation team for conspiring to falsely implicate people in connection with the 2002 Gujarat riots.
According to the affidavit filed by the investigation team before the sessions court, Setalvad was part of a ‘larger conspiracy’ carried out at the behest of Ahmed Patel in order to dismiss the BJP government in Gujarat, after the riots.
The investigation team made the allegations citing a witness’ statement that the conspiracy took place at the behest of the late Congress leader. After the riots, Setalvad and Patel met with each other. Meanwhile, Rs 30 lakh was handed over to Setalvad as well, claimed the affidavit. The investigators also found that Ahmed Patel had given Rs 25 lakh again at Circuit House in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, two days later.
