KOZHIKODE: Heavy rains in Kozhikode have caused huge damages in various parts of the district. The food prepared for a marriage function was destroyed as water entered into a wedding auditorium in Mavoor.
According to locals, the water rushed in after the side wall of Gwaliyor Rayons Factory in Mavoor fell down. As the wall collapsed, soil and stones along with rainwater washed into the convention centre. The incident took place amid the wedding ceremony of a Mavoor native. Water rushed into the kitchen and the dining hall as well.
Meantime, heavy rains continue to lash the northern districts, including Kozhikode. Rains are likely to continue in the coming hours as well, said the meteorological department. Yellow alert has been declared in six districts namely Idukki, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. The heavy rains are due to the formation of a double low-pressure region in the Arabian Sea. It is also predicted that the intensity of rain will decrease in coming days.
