THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Laksham Veedu scheme was implemeted during Achutha Menon government for poor people. 5,000 double houses built under this scheme will be turned to single houses. The expense will be Rs 250 crore and it will be included in Fourteenth Five Year Plan.

Single house benefit is for the people below poverty line and their families living in colonies. Rs 5,00,00,000 is allocated by the plan fund for the project which will be started in the current financial year. This is part of completing 50 years of Laksham veedu project. Every year Rs 50 crore for 1000 houses will be allocated to the Housing Board under the Rebuild Kerala scheme.

The scheme started on May 14, 1972 for those who did not have their own house or land. 90,208 houses were constructed in the project.
