THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state today. Northern Kerala will receive more rain. Yellow alert has been sounded in Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The Meteorological Centre warned that there should be special caution in the hilly areas which received heavy rain. The rains are due to low pressure over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal and a low pressure trough extending from Maharashtra to Gujarat. The intensity of rain may decrease by tomorrow. Idukki, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts are on yellow alert tomorrow. 259 mm of rain was received in the state in the last one week.
Meantime, the water level in Mullaperiyar Dam reached 135.70 feet. 4000 cubic feet of water is flowing into the dam per second presently. Tamil Nadu has issued a first phase of warning to Kerala.
