THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the wake of monkey pox being confirmed, surveillance will be intensified in the state from today. Tests till be made strict in airports to check if anyone coming from foreign countries have the symptoms.
The authorities have directed the employees of the airports to take safety precautions. Random testing in districts for those having chicken pox like symptoms will begin soon.
Meantime, the health condition of the 35-year-old youth undergoing treatment for monkey pox at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College is satisfactory. The youth’s parents and fellow passengers on the plane are under surveillance. They are presently asymptomatic.
The central team had reached Thiruvananthapuram Medical College yesterday and assessed the situation. The team will visit the place of the youth today. Guidelines will be issued to the district health department.
