PARAVOOR: Two men cheated a woman of her gold ornaments and money after making her believe that her son, who is abroad is in danger and it can be prevented by performing a puja. Kochuthresya, a native of Andipillykav in Vadakkekara, lost her gold and money. The incident happened yesterday afternoon.
Two-lungi clad men came to Kochuthresya's house and after hours of conversation, convinced her that her son is in great danger and asked her to perform special pujas.
They told her that gold is needed for the puja and promised to return it by 3 ‘O’ clock. She gave them a gold chain, two rings and Rs 1400 for their travel expense.
The woman was not willing to give the gold in the beginning. However, when they reiterated that her son is in danger, she gave the gold. When they did not return with the gold, she informed her relatives. She lodged a complaint with the Vadakkekara police.
They had earlier collected an amount of Rs 2000 from the woman for a puja to be performed for her son to get a better job in the Gulf. Such frauds had taken place in many places in the area and they have entered many houses and collected money. After collecting information from other houses, they reach the houses. The Vadakkekara police registered a case on the incident.
