wind

KOCHI: It has been warned that gust winds, which can wreak havoc in a region within a small period of time, will become frequent in Kerala. A few days ago, the roofs of several buildings in Thrissur were blown off by such winds. The State Disaster Management Department has issued a warning in all fourteen districts.

As the gust wind is a momentary phenomenon, it cannot be predicted in advance like the arrival of rain and wind. Wherever there is a significant variation in atmospheric pressure, it is rapidly forming.

Gust wind in Kothamangalam

A gust wind had wreaked havoc in Kothamangalam on July 13. The strong winds that accompanied the rain uprooted the trees. The roofs of several houses were blown away. Trees fell and many electric poles were broken. The gust wind lasted for only a few seconds.

Recently Kozhikode was also hit by a gust wind. Gust winds had wreaked havoc in Thrikunnapuzha in Alappuzha in October 2014 and this year in Angamali.
