KANNUR: The state is on high alert after the second case of monkeypox was confirmed in the state. The health department will check if the native of Kannur who is under treatment has come into contact with more people.

The 31-year-old youth who came from Dubai on July 13 was confirmed of monkeypox yesterday. He is undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital. His health condition is satisfactory, informed the hospital authorities.

The health workers are monitoring whether those on the contact list of the victim have any symptoms. Health Minister Veena George had asserted the other day that he has no connection with the native of Kollam diagnosed with the disease earlier.

Meantime, with the country's second case of monkey pox reported in Kerala, the central government has instructed to tighten precautionary measures. Directions have been given to subject the passengers for strict health checking in airports and harbours.
