THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a bizarre incident, a long seat at a bus waiting shed was cut short by moralists to prevent girls and boys from sitting together. The incident took place at the bus stop outside the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET). The incident came to light after the students found about it on Tuesday evening.
The long seat was cut down so as to make it suitable for only one person to sit on it. Initially, the students did not realize the reason for such an act. However, as it was found out that the move was to prevent girls and boys from sitting together, the second year students of the college decided to protest in a unique way.
The students protested by sitting on boys' laps and shared a note, titled “Forbidden to sit close, but can sit on laps, right?”, on social media.
The pictures went viral on social media within seconds. Several Congress leaders namely V T Balram and K S Sabarinadhan have come out in support of the students as well.
“Neither did the sky fall apart nor did thunder strike just because the students sat on each other’s laps”, Sabarinadhan wrote on Facebook. “Proud to be a CETian”, he added.
