NEW DELHI: NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu is all set to make history as the 15th President of India as she continues to maintain her huge lead in the first two rounds. Murmu has received 1349 votes so far while the opposition candidate Yashwant Sinha secured 537 votes. With this, Murmu is about to achieve the historic achievement of being the first president of India from a tribal community. After Pratibha Patil, Draupadi Murmu will become the second woman to become the President.

Murmu got a vote value of 4,83,299 against Yashwant Sinha's 1,89,876. Victory celebrations have already started in Delhi and Murmu's native Odisha even before the election results are out.

On July 18, all elected MLAs and MPs across the country cast their votes for the presidential election at 31 locations including Parliament House and 30 centres within state legislatures from 10 am to 5 pm. Out of 736 electors, comprising 727 MPs and nine MLAs, who were allowed by the Election Commission to vote in Parliament House, 728 electors cast their votes. The total polling percentage in Parliament House is 98.91.
