SULTAN BATHERY: African swine flu has been confirmed at a farm in Mananthavady, Wayanad. Pigs on the farm had died en masse. Following that, the samples were sent to Bhopal for testing. The remaining pigs of the farm will be culled, informed the authorities.
In the wake of African swine flu being confirmed, surveillance will be intensified in all farms of the district. Strict checking will be done at the check posts. Pigs and pork from other states will not be allowed.
Swine flu was already confirmed in some states. Following that, the central government issued a warning to states including Kerala. Pigs are infected by fleas. The authorities informed that it is not a virus that spreads to humans.
