THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sound designer and Oscar winner Resul Pookutty has sparked a controversy regarding the announcement of the National Award. Resul Pookkutty alleged that the best sync sound recording award was not given for a movie with sync sound but for a fully dubbed film. He also stated that the film's sound recordist Nithin Lukose has confirmed this.

Kannada film Dollu won the Best Location Sound Recordist award, given only to sync sound films. The award was given to Jobin Jayan. Director and sound designer Nithin Lukose said he felt sorry for the jury members who could not distinguish between a sync sound film and a dubbed film. Nithin said that he is unsure what happened.

Nithin also said on Twitter that he does not know what happened behind the scenes of the National Award determination and procedures.
