MANANTHAVADY: Wayanad district is on high alert as African swine fever has been confirmed here. Sub-Collector R Sreelakshmi informed that the farm owners have agreed to cull the pigs and the procedures will start soon. Animal Husbandry Department's Rapid Response team is in charge of culling the pigs. Culling is done by giving shock so that the blood does not comes out. The Sub-Collector also stated that they will speed up the compensation process.

African swine fever was confirmed in a farm in Mananthavady on yesterday. Pigs died en masse in the farm. So the samples were sent to Bhopal for testing.
