LUCKNOW: Numerous people are keen to adopt the pit bull dog that mauled its 82-year-old elderly owner to death in Lucknow. Around half a dozen of people and NGOs have contacted the municipal corporation expressing desire to adopt the dog, which had killed a retired teacher in Kaiserbagh.

Susheela Tripathi, who had been living with her 25-year-old son Amit Tripathi, a gym trainer, was killed by her pet pit bull on July 12. She was attacked by her dog Brownie, who was brought home three years ago, when no one else was at home. Following the incident, the Delhi Corporation sent the dog to an animal birth control centre in Nagar Nigam. Four people were assigned to monitor the dog.

According to authorities, about half a dozen NGOs have approached the municipal corporation to adopt the pit bull including NGOs from Bangalore, Delhi, Lucknow and other parts of the country.

Meantime, political activist and animal lover Maneka Gandhi has asked to hand over the dog back to its owner. However, the authorities will take action as per the rules and then decide on the adoption.
