MUNNAR: The police arrested a woman, who fled after stealing gold ornaments from a jewellery shop, from her flat in Chennai. She has been identified as Rehana Hussain Ferook (47), a native of Royapuram in Chennai. Two chains of 38 grams stolen from the shop were recovered from her.
She fled after stealing the ornaments from Ideal Jewellery on G H Road, on July 16. She committed the fraud after making the shop employees believe that she is a native of Coimbatore and a permanent resident of Malaysia. The woman, who reached the shop in the morning, bought three pairs of ear studs and a bracelet. She paid the bill amount of Rs 78,000. After that she took a chain weighing five sovereigns and after paying an advance said that she will come in the evening with her husband. When they examined the stock in the night, found two chains missing. When examined the CCTV visuals, found her placing it in her bag when no one was noticing. Following that, the shop owner lodged a complaint.
When examined the CCTV visuals of the town and surrounding areas, found her going in a tempo traveller of Tamil Nadu registration. Following that, a special investigating team reached her flat in Royapuram and arrested her. The flats there are owned by the rich. The accused produced in Devikulam Court has been remanded. A 10-member team including Rehana and her son reached Munnar on July 14. She came to the jewellery alone and robbed the ornaments. Rehana belongs to a rich family.
