THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With uncertainty and discontent in the Lok Tantric Janata Dal and others, the Congress is aiming to create confusion on the Left front through the UDF expansion agenda. Congress is also aiming to bring together the disillusioned allies in the UDF.
The merger of the Janata Dal groups has pushed back Lok Tantric Janata Dal in the political movements at the all-India level. The denial of the ministry post to LJD also caused disappointment in the LJD leadership. The Congress also feels that the frequent political controversies are disturbing the workers, including those of the CPM and CPI. The situation where many people from the Congress joined the CPM after LDF gained continuation of rule had drained the strength of the Congress ranks. However, the Congress now believes that the political controversies during the term of the second Pinarayi government are putting the left front on the defensive.
Many Kerala Congress-Mani group members from the Kottayam region, who felt ignored by the leadership, are dissatisfied. The Congress aims to lure them back and eventually bring the party back to the front in the distant future. The Congress is well aware that it cannot completely write off the Mani group in the central Travancore region. Mani group's decision to switch to the LDF has affected the UDF in Kottayam, Idukki and Pathanamthitta districts.
If the UDF loses the assembly election for the third continuous time, then the UDF will disintegrate in Kerala. Two factions are in a cold war within the Muslim League.
Both front leaderships do not expect a sudden front change. It has not been long since the LJD left the UDF and joined the Left Front. The party leadership is convinced that it would be suicidal to change fronts yet again.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Congress Joseph Group is unhappy with the announcement that front expansion was Congress's agenda without discussing the matter in the UDF.
