NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will once again question Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi in connection with the National Herald money laundering case on Tuesday. She was questioned for about two-and-half hours last week. Following which, the ED has summoned her for the second round of questioning.

Sonia Gandhi was questioned on July 22. She was asked 50 questions regarding the share information of the Young Indian Pvt Ltd Company acquired by the National Herald. During the interrogation, a medical team was kept ready considering Gandhi’s ill health.

Meantime, the Congress will stage protests at the AICC headquarters against the ED action on Tuesday. State units will also organize protest events.

National Herald Case

The Congress Mouthpiece National Herald was shut down, with a debt of over Rs 90 crore, in 2008. The amount was to be paid to the Congress party’s publisher Associated Journals Ltd (AJL). Later, Young India Ltd (YIL), a company set up in November 2010 in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi held a majority share of 76 per cent, took over AJL for Rs 50 lakhs, considering the company had real estate properties worth Rs 2,000 crores. In 2012, then MP Subramanian Swamy filed a case against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for cheating and misappropriation of funds in acquiring the newspaper.
