KOCHI: The Kerala Anti-social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA) imposed on the main accused Arjun Ayanki in the Karipur gold smuggling case has been cancelled. The KAAPA Advisory Board issued an order pointing out that the gold smuggling case is a customs case and does not fall under the purview of Kappa.

Arjun Ayanki is an accused in the gold smuggling quotation case and fighting cases. Arjun had filed an appeal in the KAAPA Advisory Board stating that there is no case against him after 2017 and the previous cases were when he was a CPM worker. Arjun, who was the secretary of Azhikode Kappakadav unit of DYFI, was expelled by the organization after he joined the drug trafficking gang. DYFI had filed a police complaint against Akash Thillangeri and Arjun Ayanki in May. With this, the police commissioner recommended to charge him with KAAPA. With the new order, the police position has suffered a setback.

Meanwhile, Arjun Ayanki, who is active in gold smuggling quotation activities, along with TP Chandrasekaran murder case accused Kodi Suni, Shafie and Shuhaib murder case accused Akash Thillangeri formed a big network to extort gold. In the meantime, in the Karipur incident, on June 28 last year, the Customs caught him. He is currently out on bail in this case.
