NEW DELHI: The Karnataka government has informed the Supreme Court that they have new evidence in the Bengaluru blast case in which PDP leader Abdul Nazer Madani is an accused. The Karnataka government said that there is new evidence against the 21 accused and asked the apex court to direct the trial court to consider the phone call records. Following which, the Supreme Court stayed the final hearing of the case and clarified that it will decide whether to consider the new evidence within two weeks.
The Karnataka High Court had earlier rejected the plea to consider new evidence in the case. However, the state government approached the Supreme Court against the directive. The accused were of the position that they could not allow new evidence to be considered as the trials were already completed. The advocate, who appeared for Madani, also argued that if there was any evidence, then it should have been produced while considering the charge sheet. He added that considering new evidence would lead to the trial going on indefinitely. Following which, the Supreme Court said that it will take a decision in the regard within two weeks.
