THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Landslides and flash floods have been reported in several places following heavy rains which are causing concern that there will be another major flood. Two people died in the rain fury. The weather warning is that there will be very heavy rain which may cause flash floods and landslides.

KJ Advaith (22), son of the late Santhosh and Raji, drowned while crossing a flooded bridge in Ranni's Kollamula, Pathanamthitta. Chathanthara Chennamattam, who was with him, rescued Samuel. The incident happened at 7.15 last night.

Kumaran, a native of Tirunelveli, who was part of a 15-member excursion group, including women from Tamil Nadu, died in a flash flood at the Kumbhavurutti falls in Punalur Achankovil. Two people were seriously injured. Others who climbed the cliff were rescued.

Landslides occurred at two places on the Ponmudi-Kallar road in Thiruvananthapuram. Around 50 tourists who were trapped for several hours due to flood in Meenmutti in Kallar were rescued by ropes. During the flash flood in Kallar, the two youths who were trapped in the rock in the river were rescued.

Landslides occurred in Munchilav and Melukavu in Meenachil taluk of Kottayam. Mundakayam-Erumeli road was flooded. There was a landslide at Idukki Moolamattam Kannikal hill. Manappadi and Kachiramattam bridges were submerged.

Tourism centres are closed

In Thiruvananthapuram, the eco-tourism centers of Neyyar, Kotur, Peppara, Ponmudi, Kallar and Mangayam have been closed.
